Choose a surgeon who is fully qualified and experienced in the field.

Plastic surgery is becoming more and more popular in Australia and around the world. If you are considering a cosmetic procedure, you might be wondering where to begin when it comes to choosing a Plastic Surgeon. Choosing a surgeon who understands your needs, concerns and aesthetic goals is crucial when it comes to enjoying a stress-free experience. Read on for our tips on finding a surgeon who is well-suited to you…

Check your surgeon’s credentials

When choosing a Plastic Surgeon, be sure that you seek treatment from a professional who is fully-qualified and experienced.  You should check that your surgeon is registered with the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, and that they are certified by The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

It is also advisable that you check that your Plastic Surgeon has completed specialist training, and that they practice in medical facilities that have been fully accredited. You can check their credentials through the AHPRA website at: https://www.ahpra.gov.au/Registration/Registers-of-Practitioners.aspx

Ask for personal recommendations

One of the best ways to find a surgeon is to ask your friends and family for their personal recommendations. If your friends and family have been through a cosmetic or reconstructive procedure and are satisfied with their results, as well as their overall treatment experience, it is worth meeting with their surgeon to discuss your needs.

If you don’t know anyone who has used the services of a plastic surgeon, you can chat to your general practitioner who may be able to refer you to a reputable surgeon in your area.

Use your consultation to ask questions

When you see your surgeon for your initial consultation, be sure to bring along a list of questions so that your surgeon can provide you with all the information that you need. Your initial consultation is also a good time to openly discuss any concerns that you might have, as well as your aesthetic goals. In fact, it is important that you are as honest and clear about your goals as possible so that your surgeon can advise you on the course of treatment that suits you best.

When you meet with your surgeon, it is advisable that you speak about any possible risks that are associated with your treatment of choice. Your surgeon should be able to explain any potential complications to you, as well as what you can expect from the recovery process. You should feel fully informed about your treatment before going ahead with any cosmetic or reconstructive procedure.
