Brow Lift

Restore and rejuvenate sagging, low or uneven brows.

A brow lift is a cosmetic procedure that is undertaken to raise one’s eyebrows. It aims to raise the soft tissue and skin of the forehead and brow areas to revitalise the appearance of the area around and above the eyes.

Typically, as one ages, the eyebrows move down and gradually lose the ability to move back into place after being stretched, resulting in a smaller gap between the eyebrows and eyelids in addition to a saggy, sunken appearance.

The procedure involves raising the soft tissue and skin of the forehead and brow and can be performed with other procedures, such as upper and lower blepharoplasty surgery.

Brow Lift Procedure

The procedure will be performed differently based on the specific results that you are looking to achieve and your unique circumstances. There are various types of brow lift techniques available to Dr Mark Hanikeri. These include: 

• Endoscopic brow lifts
• Temporal brow lifts
• Direct brow lifts
• Coronal brow lifts
• Hairline brow lifts

The procedure generally takes 1-2 hours to complete under general anaesthesia. Following the procedure, the area around your forehead and eyes will be lightly bandaged. Patients may experience some scarring as a result of brow lift surgery, though the surgeon will aim to keep this at a minimum. 

Recovery from a brow lift

The recovery process from a brow lift can vary as a result of various factors and the unique procedure that has been performed on a patient. Nonetheless, one must follow their surgeon’s post-operative instructions carefully to ensure proper healing and minimise the risk of any complications arising.

Generally, you may experience the following during your recovery: 

• There will be some swelling and bruising around the forehead and eye area, which can last up to two weeks. 
• Patients may experience some discomfort and pain, but this can be managed with pain medication as prescribed by their surgeon. 
• Avoid strenuous activities for at least two weeks after surgery, and keep your head elevated to reduce swelling. 
• Avoid direct sunlight and wear sunglasses to protect your eyes.

Sutures or staples are typically removed about 7-10 days after surgery, and most patients can return to work or other day-to-day activities within 7-10 days, but it may take several weeks for the full effects of the surgery to be visible. By the one month mark, patients are able to resume most other activities including exercise. 

After 3-6 months, you will begin to see the final results of your surgery, and any residual scarring caused by the procedure will continue to fade.
